PITAC INVITES YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN A TOWN HALL MEETING ON CYBER SECURITY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

The President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) invites you to provide input on the appropriate scale, scope, and emphases for Federal investments and public policy related to cyber security research and development.  PITAC is chartered by Congress to provide the President, Congress, and Federal agencies involved in information technology research and development with expert, independent advice on maintaining America’s preeminence in advanced information technology.  Additional information about PITAC and the charge of its Subcommittee on Cyber Security may be found at <http://www.nitrd.gov/pitac>.

PITAC’s Subcommittee on Cyber Security is hosting a Town Hall Meeting to solicit perspectives from members of the public on the current state of cyber security and the future measures needed to help ensure U.S. leadership in this area.  The Subcommittee has developed a list of questions to define the area of its particular interests.  These questions may be viewed at <http://www.nitrd.gov/pitac/meetings/2004/20040729/questions.pdf>.

The Town Hall Meeting will be held from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2004, in the exhibition area of GOVSEC--The Government Security Expo & Conference--at the Washington Convention Center.  Admission to the exhibition area is free, but registration is required.  To register, go to <https://www.eshow2000.com/govsec/registration.cfm>.  The GOVSEC news release about the Town Hall Meeting may be found at <http://www.govsecinfo.com/content/news/dyn_news.asp? iSecID=&iContentID=731>.  Light refreshments will be available beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Those who wish to make oral comments are asked to address one or more of the questions from the Subcommittee’s list and to limit their comments to three minutes.  If you wish to be placed on the agenda to speak, contact Alan Inouye at inouye@xxxxxxxx or 703-292-4540.  Please provide your full name, affiliation, e-mail or phone number, and the general subject area for your comments.  Written submissions will also be accepted; contact Alan Inouye as indicated above.

The Subcommittee may ask follow-up questions of those offering oral comments.  As time permits, those who did not reserve a place on the agenda will be invited to offer oral comments.
