Subject: ACLU to Open Silicon Valley Office and Job Opening
Dave,
I hope you will consider this message for the IP list serve.
This fall the ACLU will be opening a new office in Silicon Valley. The
decision to open a regional office of the ACLU of Northern California
in the San Jose/Silicon Valley recognizes that the Valley is home to
many of the most important technology companies and institutions in the
nation. It has its own media market, political networks and coalition
structures, and six strategically important members of Congress.
The office will be staffed by a full-time public policy advocate, a
full time organizer, and a full time support person. The public policy
advocate will be the first to be hired. It will be the role of the
public policy advocate to bring a civil liberties perspective to
decisions being made in both the private and the public sectors
regarding technology and privacy. The public policy advocate will work
closely with the legal staff of our San Francisco office as well as
their communications and field departments. He or she will also have
significant interaction with our Sacramento legislative office and with
the national ACLU's Technology and Liberty Project.
If there are list members who are interested in this position or know
someone who might be, a complete job description and application
information is available at
http://www.aclunc.org/techliberties_job.html.
Thanks,
Barry Steinhardt
