Hi, Dave,
Here's a summary of a couple of replies I just sent, with a little more
info that might be useful.
Joe
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1) .ly is not 'off the net'
the root servers indicate two authoritative servers for .ly:
ns1.magic-moments.com - which is not serving .ly anymore
(0 .ly records)
auth02.ns.uu.net - which has 2,876 DNS records in .ly,
and is answering queries just fine
"dig @auth02.ns.uu.net ly. axfr"
2) lydomains.com's website doesn't confirm the email that they are
no longer serving .ly
Their site says nothing about 'losing the delegation'
3) something is definitely amiss in the DNS
lydomains.com's DNS (not authoritative, but a clue) lists
magic-moments DNS as authoritiative for .ly
magic-moments's DNS has NO .ly SOA records, i.e., doesn't
indicate either itself or uu.net as authoritative
uu.net's DNS lists only itself (auth02.ns.uu.net)
as authoritative for .ly
the root servers list both auth02.ns.uu.net and
ns1.magic-moments.com as authoritative for .ly
That sort of inconsistency is a hint that something is amiss, IMO.
FWIW, the UU.NET entry appears to have been modified on March 31, 2004 (the
SOA record serial number appears to use the common convention), but that
doesn't necessarily indicate a problem.
