The "International Robot Racing Federation" appears to be trying to set up
similar competitions. I have no idea who's behind it, but it should be
interesting to see what they come up with.
Of course, I still stand by my original suggestion, made last year, when
DARPA told 80 or so teams they couldn't compete in the contest:

They should take a page from the success of TV show competitions like
Junkyard Wars, which pit two teams in a competition to build something out
of the junkyard in just one day and have the two teams compete. You could
do the same sort of thing for this autonomous race, and put on a regular
competition showing the autonomous cars trying to navigate the chosen
course, and set up a round robin style tournament.
