Here's what I mean. This is one sample of thousands available; this
particular one just happened to make it onto my radar because it showed
up in a forum I track relatively closely. The sender's address may be
forged (I haven't checked) but the spammer appears to give a real
working address in the body of the message.
My point is that having the feds compile lists and make them available
free-of-charge would certainly detract from part of this spambag's
business, but would of course be a boon to all of his/her customers.
It would also be a boon to virus/worm authors: consider the M$ worm
de jour and how fast it might spread itself if, wired into it, was
the URL for such a huge list of addreses.
