Subject: [Dewayne-Net] Nations Chafe at U.S. Influence Over the Internet
"The world should be grateful to Uncle Sam for creating the Internet,"
said Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, a Jordanian businessman who is vice chairman
of
the United Nations' Information and Communication Technology Task
Force.
But, he said, it is time for the rest of the world to have a larger
voice
in Internet governance.
Grateful, my b***! It was INVENTED in the US, and not 'by' Uncle Sam -
i.e. the US government. It just paid for the research bills. Why should
ANY other governments have a 'voice' - which is just AKA for 'control'
of the Internet? That's the real international goal. CONTROL! Its enough
that the US Government has its own nose into the Internet. I wouldn't
trust China, Cuba, France, Iran, Zimbabwe any more to 'control' the
Internet root servers any more than I would the US Congress.

Icann's role is limited to technical matters like the format of
Internet
addresses, Mr. Twomey said. "If governments think they can really find
a
place to discuss spam and child porn and e-commerce, we would probably
welcome it," he said. "These things are not in our charter - it is not
what we do. So we want to assure everyone involved that we are not
standing in the way."
Amen. But not in ICANN. As I said at least 20 years ago (my original
quote technically updated here for those youngsters who don't remember
what 'BBS's, or Fidonets, or UUCP were) when global, affordable,
individual Internet communications first started spreading:
Benjamin Franklin would have been the first Linux user.
Thomas Jefferson would have first circulated drafts of the Declaration
of Independence on a moderated mail-list.
Tomas Paine would have first published 'Common Sense' on a Blog.
I don't want any foreign Kings George treading on my long-ago ARIN
assigned ISP Class C Address Space!
We must continue to have absolute freedom of Internet space and the all
the electronic speech that goes with it!
