Re: [alac-admin] Re: At-Large European Meeting

I will remind meeting attendees that *I* gave them sample MOU text to help facilitate their discussion of establishing a European RALO -- and that it is intended as an example of what an MOU might look like and is not "ALAC text" (a couple meeting participants asked me what a RALO MOU was).

It would be useful if ALAC members discussed the MOUs and I'm sure the ALSs would welcome your suggestions on how they should proceed.

Thanks.

dear denise,

we are the ones who would give the "sample MOU text" to the group tomorrow
without having discussed it in ALAC. I do not think that we should do it that way.

In any case, I think it is a useful effort, but perhaps it's better if we first discuss draft texts among ourselves, then we share them with the Structures. Actually, in the conf call we had a couple of months ago, we discussed whether we wanted to use this meeting as the moment when we would draft Bylaws and MoU, or just to launch the process, and even if I initially supported the first idea, it was agreed that we'd better first have a general discussion. So I would avoid entering into MoU details, also given that I'm not sure whether all of us think that the current set of ALSes is sufficient to start incorporating the RALO.

Again, I would suggest that the sample MOU text simply be used as an example to help orient the discussion towards the objective of actually creating a RALO. The current set of ALSs in Europe meet the bylaw requirements and can create a RALO now if they so choose. It is, of course, their responsibility, not the ALAC's, to sign an MOU and launch a RALO.
