[alac-forum] Comment on AmericaAtLarge.com application

Is this what it's come down to?

Reviewing the application, one can't help noticing that this group has no
members, and is simply a vague wish list made by a mere handful of
individuals, backed by 3 players in the Registrars and Business
constituencies. The closest thing it seems to have to any substance is a
string of domain names that can be registered in 5 minutes for less than
$100.00.

In the not too distant past, a group of 2,000 or more active At Large
participants, mostly individuals, self organized quite effectively by
writing hundreds of pages of reports, forming committees, running 6 or more
active mailing lists, turning up for At Large Meetings, lobbying other
constituencies, volunteering for ICANN committees, participating in Working
Groups, and teleconferences, drafting Bylaws, verifying identities,
implementing election procedures, electing officers etc. etc. etc. How was
this effort treated by the ALAC? In a phrase "not credible", hence
completely ignored.

One of those participants, Michael Gendron, even made a serious inquiry
posted here March 5th. Where's the response ALAC? Noted by its absence, yet
the ALAC seems perfectly willing to send out an announcement about the
AmericaAtLarge.com application, stating that it is giving this serious
consideration. How can the ALAC possibly justify that decision?
