Background ========== libpng is a free ANSI C library used to process and manipulate PNG images. Affected packages ================= ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 media-libs/libpng < 1.2.13 >= 1.2.13 Description =========== Tavis Ormandy of the Gentoo Linux Security Audit Team discovered that a vulnerability exists in the sPLT chunk handling code of libpng, a large sPLT chunk may cause an application to attempt to read out of bounds. Impact ====== A remote attacker could craft an image that when processed or viewed by an application using libpng causes the application to terminate abnormally. Workaround ========== There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========== All libpng users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=media-libs/libpng-1.2.13" References ========== [ 1 ] CVE-2006-5793 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2006-5793 Availability ============ This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-200611-09.xml Concerns? ========= Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users machines is of utmost importance to us.
